Appleton & Patient Dazzle to Group 8 Glory

The entertaining but potent combination of Darren ‘Dynamite’ Appleton & Chris ‘King Pigeon’ Patient went undefeated throughout the night to win Group 8 of the ultimatepool.tv Pairs Cup and advance to the second phase of the competition later this year.

There was plenty of anticipation for cuesport legend Appleton’s return to his smaller table roots, and the mutli-discipline world champion didn’t disappoint his legion of fans as he and his friend Patient performed very well in front of the live television cameras.

The pair began with a 3-2 victory over father and son duo Matt & Liam Ward, before Liverpool's Dave Arnold & Barry Kelly caused a mini upset as they defeated Ultimate Pool professional Aaron Davies and his playing partner Matt Brierley 2-0 in match two.

Davies & Brierley bounced back with a 3-2 win over Team Ward to stay in contention, and in a pivotal fourth match of the evening, Appleton & Patient got the better of Arnold & Kelly 3-1 to take sole control at the top of the group.

Arnold & Kelly ousted The Wards 2-1 to keep their hopes alive, but Appleton & Patient completed their mission without the need of a 6-red shootout, obtaining the point they required to qualify outright after a 2-2 draw with Davies & Brierley.

Now at the halfway point of this opening phase in the tournament, Appleton & Patient will go into a phase two group alongside fellow winners Arfan Dad & Craig Waddingham, Vic & Vivek Makh and John Roe & Lewis Roberts.

Next week – on Monday 29th August – it's the return of the dream team as four-time world 8-ball champion Gareth Potts once again teams up with four-time world professional snooker champion and 2006 WEPF World 8-Ball Pool Champion, Mark Selby.
